Terms of use

Short, because the app is small and we'd like you to read it.

Last updated 26 July 2026.

1. The agreement

rn is made by weird little ideas, LLC (“we”). By using it you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use it.

2. Your account

You sign in with your phone number, and that number is your identity here. You must be at least 13, and you must be entitled to use the number you sign in with. Keep access to your phone secure — anyone who can receive your codes can reach your account.

If you change or give up your phone number, tell us. Numbers get reissued by carriers, and a number you no longer hold could otherwise let someone else reach an account you left behind.

3. Invitations and your circle

rn is invitation-only and deliberately small. An invitation is addressed to one phone number and works only for that number. Don't invite someone who hasn't asked to be invited, and don't use rn to keep track of anyone who doesn't want to be kept track of. Either of you can remove the connection at any time, and it ends for both of you.

4. What you share

You choose what your card shows. You're responsible for the content you share — photos, notes and anything else — and you confirm you have the right to share it. Don't share anything unlawful, or anything depicting someone who wouldn't want it shared.

We don't review what you share, and we don't want to. A safety check runs on your own device to hold back photos that look private or sensitive before they ever leave it; it's a helpful heuristic, not a guarantee, and it doesn't make the decision for you.

5. Location

rn is not a tracking product and must not be used as one. Your location is turned into words on your own phone, and a precise location is shared only when you deliberately propose meeting a specific person — once, to them, for an hour. Don't use rn to monitor, follow or pressure anyone.

6. Fair use

Don't attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer or work around the limits of the service, and don't use it to harass anyone. We may suspend or remove an account that does.

7. Availability

rn is early software, currently in a small private beta. It may change, break, or be unavailable, and features may be added or removed. We don't promise it will always work, and you shouldn't rely on it for anything urgent or safety-critical. It is not an emergency service and is not a substitute for contacting someone directly.

8. Your content stays yours

You keep all rights to what you share. You give us only the permission we need to run the service — to store your content and show it to the people in your circle — and nothing more. We don't use it for anything else, and that permission ends when the content is deleted, which for a photo means within 24 hours.

9. Ending it

You can stop using rn whenever you like and ask us to delete your account and its data (see the privacy policy). We may end an account that breaks these terms.

10. Liability

rn is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it, and our total liability is limited to what you've paid us — which today is nothing.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.
